Advanced NFP Gift Aid portal processes donations worth £100 Million in six months

Flexible Gift Aid service allows greater number of charities to benefit

Advanced NFP’s Gift Aid portal has helped its charity customers to process over £100 million in charitable donations in the last six months and reclaim tax of over £25 million. This demonstrates its ability to get charities up and running quickly with the new online Gift Aid processing requirements for HMRC, which came into force in September 2013. The new requirements for online processing include significant data cleansing processes for organisations to ensure the claim is validated at the time of submission.

The Gift Aid SAAS portal, which brings together all the Group’s specialist NFP products for processing Gift Aid transactions, has proved popular with a large percentage of Advanced NFP’s customers. Using the portal automates the claims submission process which has significantly reduced the associated administrative burden.

Simon Fowler, Managing Director, Advanced Business Solutions (NFP), says: “Reaching the £100 million mark on total value of Gift Aid donations is a significant achievement. Our Gift Aid portal has processed claims resulting in our customers reclaiming tax to a value of over £25 million. Feedback from customers is that the portal has helped to take the pain out of the claims process and provided significant value to them.”

Gift Aid is worth nearly £1 billion a year to charities and their donors. It was introduced in 2000 by the UK Government as a way for charities or Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASCs) to increase the value of monetary gifts from UK taxpayers by claiming back the basic rate tax paid by the donor on the donation. It increases the value of donations by a quarter at no extra cost to the donor.

All Gift Aid claims must now be made online directly to HMRC and organisations processing claims in excess of 1,000 records must be uploaded directly to the Government Gateway.

Care for the Family is one organisation which has seen processing times reduce and a faster return of funds into the charity: Stuart Hellard, Systems Co-ordinator at Care for the Family,  says, “It took just over a week for the Advanced NFP team to get the Gift Aid application up and running on our CARENG database. Gift Aid was previously managed manually which meant reclaiming tax was a slow process. The portal has automated this process resulting in significantly improved cash flow for the charity."
